NUC approves 44 academic courses in LASU

THE National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited 44 courses at Lagos State University (LASU) following an accreditation exercise conducted by the Body in October and November of 2023.

In a circular dated June 6, 2024, and titled “Results of the October/November 2023 Accreditation of Academic Programmes in Nigerian Universities,” the Commission announced the approval of 44 courses, 40 undergraduate courses and four Master degree courses in Faculties, including Administration (10), Agriculture (2), Arts (5), Communication (1), Computing (1), Education (8), Engineering (4), Law (1), Medicine (2), Sciences (5), and Social Sciences (5).

The circular also showed that 43 of the 44 courses assessed secured full accreditation for five years, with only one course, ‘Computer Science Education’ getting interim accreditation for two years.

The accredited courses include M.Sc. Banking and Finance, M.Sc. Insurance, M.Sc. Marketing, M.Sc. Transport Management, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Insurance, Management Technology, Marketing, Public Administration, and Transport Management from the Faculty of Administration.

Agriculture and Fisheries were accredited in Agriculture while French, History and International Studies, Philosophy, Portuguese, and Theatre and Media Arts were accredited in Arts.

In the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Mass Communication was accredited while Computer Science was accredited in Computing. Business Education, Education Arabic, Education Economics, Education Computer Science, Education Management, Education Mathematics, Education Technology, and Health Education were accredited in Education.

Others on the list include Aeronautics and Astronautics Engineering, Chemical and Polymer Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering in Engineering; Common and Islamic Law in Law; and Dentistry and Medicine and Surgery in Medicine.

The rest include Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Zoology in Sciences; and Economics, Geography and Planning, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology in Social Science.
