LASU Consult holds National Security Summit to mark Democracy Day

The event brought together experts in law enforcement, technology, and community engagement to discuss and find solutions to the security challenges facing the country.

THE Lagos State University Consult Limited, in collaboration with the Institute of Criminology and Strategic Studies (ICSS), hosted a National Security Summit on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the 3-in-1 Lecture Hall, Faculty of Education, Ojo, Lagos, to address the challenges facing national security in Nigeria. The summit emphasised the need to integrate law enforcement, technology, and community engagement for a robust national security agenda.

Prof. Omololu Soyombo, the Lead Speaker, highlighted the importance of addressing corruption and misconduct within law enforcement agencies, improving inter-agency collaboration, and investing in technology to enhance national security. He also stressed the need for community engagement to foster partnerships between security agencies and communities.

Dr Aderemi Adekunle, the Registrar-General of ICSS, emphasised the need for a comprehensive and dynamic approach to national security, involving communities, law enforcement, and technology. He also announced the upcoming Annual International Conference on National Security, themed "Harmony in Security: Bridging the Gap between Theory and Practice," to be held in August 2024.

The summit featured goodwill messages from dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and the decoration of new national officers of the ICSS. The event brought together law enforcement agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigerian Police Force, to discuss and find solutions to national security challenges in Nigeria.

In conclusion, the summit emphasised the need for a collaborative approach to national security, involving law enforcement, technology, and community engagement, to ensure the safety and security of citizens in Nigeria.
