FASU, NUGA inspects LASU ahead of FASU Games

As the countdown begins to the 11th All Africa University Games, tagged Lagos 2024, Lagos State University is gearing up to co-host the prestigious event with the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

IN preparation for the 11th All Africa University Games, tagged Lagos 2024, officials from the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) have visited the Lagos State University (LASU) for a two-day facilities inspection.

The visit, which began on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, aims to assess LASU's readiness to co-host the event with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) from Friday, September 20 to Sunday, September 29, 2024.

Led by NUGA President, Dr Bawa Mohammed, the seven-man team expressed confidence in LASU's ability to successfully host the competition. Dr Mohammed congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on LASU's successful accreditation of 44 programmes and praised the quality leadership and hospitality displayed by the University staff.

On her part, LASU's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, unveiled the University's plan to host the best FASU Games ever, including upgrading facilities and providing hostel accommodations for the 1500 student-athletes. She also assured the safety of lives and properties, following her meeting with the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

The officials embarked on an inspection tour of the University's facilities, including the FASU Games Secretariat, Academic Resource Centre, LASU Sports Centre, and Students Hostels. The tour ended at the Senate Building, where the Head of the delegation expressed satisfaction with the University's preparedness.

The visiting delegation included representatives from NUGA, FUTA, FISU, and FASU, accompanied by officials from the University of Lagos. Members of the Lagos State University management and Local Organising Sub-Committees were also present during the inspection tour.

The successful inspection visit has boosted the University's morale, and LASU is now more determined than ever to host the best FASU Games ever.
