Seyi Awolowo's speaks on family experience

SEYI Awolowo, a reality TV star and grandson of the legendary Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has opened up about his complex relationship with his family's legacy.

Speaking on the Just Chude podcast, Seyi revealed that despite being born into a prestigious family, his father taught him and his siblings the value of hard work and financial independence. "We were born with a silver spoon, but my dad made sure that we understood the value of the silver that was in our mouths," he said.68

Seyi also shared that his father disowned him and his siblings multiple times, an experience he described as challenging but ultimately motivating. "My dad disowned me a couple of times—not just me but a number of us. He would write us letters to let us know that we were cut off," he explained.

Despite this, Seyi acknowledged the impact of his grandfather's legacy on his life, saying "Being in the shadows of my grandad has made me see that even if I was hungry for something, if I did not have something to ginger me, I wouldn't put in the effort."69

Seyi expressed mixed feelings about carrying the Awolowo name but ultimately credited his father's influence with instilling a strong work ethic in him. "My dad is late, but my mum is still very much alive. My dad was a very unbreakable character in my life; his influence in my life put me in a mindset that I cannot take life for granted and I need to apply myself," he said.
