SEUN Kuti, the popular Afrobeat musician has recently addressed ongoing rumours that some TikTok users are attempting to create a rift between him and his close friend, Verydarkman, a social media influencer.
According to Kuti, these rumours have been fuelled by a misunderstanding regarding his apology to human rights lawyer Femi Falana, which some have twisted to suggest a betrayal of Verydarkman.
Kuti explained that while he had apologised to Femi Falana concerning a public dispute, some individuals manipulated the situation to stir up conflict between him and Verydarkman. "Some TikTok users are trying to create a divide by twisting my words and my actions. They want to make it look like I betrayed my friend, Verydarkman, which is far from the truth," Kuti stated.
He clarified that his apology was directed at Falana in the context of the ongoing legal case involving both Falana and Verydarkman in connection with the Bobrisky controversy.
The musician further revealed that to stop further confusion and prevent misunderstandings, he has taken steps to limit the sharing of his social media posts by Verydarkman before they go public.
"To avoid any more false information being spread, I’ve stopped Verydarkman from sharing my posts with him before they go online," Kuti said. This decision, he explained, was made to protect his friendship with Verydarkman and his public image, ensuring that they could remain on good terms without the intrusion of external drama.
In a bid to clarify his stance, Kuti emphasised that he is focused on maintaining a neutral position in the situation. He expressed his desire to stay clear of any unnecessary conflict and avoid being dragged into legal disputes or personal tensions between Verydarkman and Falana.
"I value my friendship with Verydarkman, and I’m not interested in drama. My priority is to stay neutral and keep things respectful between all parties involved," Kuti added.
