CONTROVERSIAL Nigerian singer, Portable has ignited fury with his recent Instagram story post, claiming there's no reason to protest and labeling those who plan to do so as jobless.
“Please, I need money, I'm hustling. If you take your job seriously, you won't join the protest. Don't fight for Nigeria, fight for yourself," he said. Portable warned against being asked to perform at the protest, stating, "It won't be well with anyone who tells me to perform during the protest."
His comments come as many Nigerians prepare for a nationwide protest between August 1 and 10, 2024, in response to the rising cost of living under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Portable attributed the economic struggles to individual laziness, saying, "Nigeria is okay, you are the one who is not okay. There is money in some places, you are the one who did not hustle or not loyal to your helper."
Portable's statements have sparked outrage, with many criticising his insensitive remarks amidst the citizens' economic misery.
His comments have further fueled the debate about the planned protest, with some arguing that it's essential to address the country's economic woes, while others, like Portable, believe individuals should focus on personal hustle rather than seeking systemic change.
