OLALEKAN Jacob Ponle, also known as Mr Woodberry, a close associate of Ramon "Hushpuppi" Abbas, has been released from FBI custody after being arrested in Dubai on June 10, 2020, for money laundering.
Mr Woodberry, who pleaded guilty to internet fraud in April 2023 and agreed to forfeit his luxurious assets in Dubai and pay $8 million in restitution to victims, took to social media to share the news with Nigerians.
On August 10, 2024, Mr Woodberry broke his silence, posting on his official Instagram page, "God is my source, I will lack nothing."
This statement comes after speculation surrounding his release, with many expressing scepticism. However, Mr Woodberry's post confirms his freedom, and his message of faith serves as a testament to his resilience.
Mr Woodberry's release comes after the FBI suggested he could be released in July 2023, following the sale of his 152 bitcoins, valued at N3.6 billion. His associate, Hushpuppi, is currently serving an 11-year sentence for a comparable fraud crime.
